Abstract

This paper is devoted to the 400th anniversary of the great French philosopher, mystic and mathematician Blaise Pascal. We propose here several short biographical data, a glance at his highly appreciated by the philosophers contributions to Christian philosophy, theology and gnosiology and, finally, we discuss his outstanding achievements in mathematics. It concerns Pascal’s remarkable results in the Probability theory – an intensively developing area till now – and his nice theorems (from aesthetical point of view) on hexagons inscribed in conic sections in the plane. His computing machine and interesting results in physics (pressure of fluids) are also discussed.
